Iran’s wrestling federation said in a statement on Saturday that it had accepted Dorostkar’s resignation and replaced him with Mohsen Kaveh, a veteran wrestler who has served in various roles in Iranian national wrestling teams.
Kaveh has only nine months to prepare the Iranian free-style wrestlers for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games where the country aims to win a tally of medals in free-style wrestling.
During his tenure as Iran’s national team coach, Dorostkar managed to secure major titles for Iran in the Asian and world championship tournaments.
However, his team’s performance in the 2023 World Wrestling Championships in Belgrade has been described as relatively poor with critics saying he could have easily led Iranian free-style wrestlers to more gold medals and Olympic quotas.
